Last night Ivor scribbled all over the kitchen table while I was trying to make dinner. (Normally he has little interest in colouring or crafts, so I was pleased when he actually asked for them.) I had my back to him, washing a pot, and didn't notice what was happening until he was halfway through his drawing of 'Jonah and the whale'.
When I asked him what he was doing, he looking guilty. (He knows crayons are only for use on paper.) But being the bright cheeky boy he is, Ivor tried to make good his decision by arguing that it is from the Bible.
'I am just drawing Jonah and the whale, Mommy. That is in the Bible and the Bible comes from God...' He looked up at me with the most sweet and innocent expression he could muster. He effectively managed to make me laugh.
Parenting is probably better done with a sense of humour than anger anyway.
