Daddy

'Daddy' is Ivor's favorite person and his favorite word. I listen to him call for Daddy, babble the word- daddy, point out Daddy in pictures, and watch out for daddy coming home literally ALL DAY long.

"Daddy. Daddy. Daddy. Duckaducka. Daddy. Daddy. Dubbadubba. Daddy. DADDY!"

He will point to the photos on the wall or bookshelf and ask, 'Daddy?' (followed by a blur of jibberish which I can only assume is translated something like, 'Where is that Daddy guy? I pretty bored of you and would really like to play with Daddy.'). Since he is now tall enough to pull most of our photos off the living room bookshelf, I often find him wandering around with a framed photo of Daddy in his hands. (See the video below.)

The interest in Daddy definitely increases after his afternoon nap- probably because he knows that at some point after that Daddy gets home from work. Ivor will call for Daddy almost as soon as he wakes up from his nap. I'll try to distract him with toys, games or songs, but every few minutes he'll wander into the hall to see if Daddy is coming through the front door. He jumps up and gets excited at every door slamming or key jingling in the close.

Now that he has some understanding of the way phones work, Ivor will bring me the phone- his way of declaring that he would like to call Daddy. When we do call Daddy at work, I put the phone on speaker so that Ivor can hear him. You would not believe the sweetest of Ivor's big smile when he hears that voice. He just lights up with glee, jabbers excitedly and when the phone call is over he smacks his hands together to ask for more. ('Let's call him again! I need MORE of that cool Daddy guy!')

When Daddy gets home the volume doubles, and the squeals of delight and laughter increase too. There is nothing sweeter in the world than watching my boys play, love and enjoy each other.

That said- I definitely look forward to the day when 'Mommy' becomes part of Ivor's vocabulary!
