Toothbrushes and Teddy

Ivor is only a week into month 9 and already it is shaping up to be quite the month of firsts.

Ivor experienced his first visit to the dentist last week. He only has two teeth, so the visit was really just to get him used to the idea of the dentist (and the concept of not biting when the dentist sticks her fingers in his mouth). Amazingly, the dentist came away unscathed.

The little boy was completely uninterested in the dentist or her fancy equipment until she completely bowled him over with free toothpaste and toothbrush. You should have seen his huge smile when she handed him an entire tube of toothpaste- we couldn't pry that tube from his hands for over an hour. In fact, his new 'toys' entertained him for the duration of my own check-up, cleaning and the ride home (until he fell asleep). Who needs toys when you have a new toothbrush/toothpaste to play with?!

After a few days of working, Ivor has found his feet! He seems to do better pushing himself up than pulling up, but he is getting more and more steady every time. At the moment, his favorite place to try out his new trick is the bath- because that is clearly the safest place! This whole learning-to-walk stage is hard to watch!

Ivor had his first full day of nursery on Monday. I was a little emotional Sunday night and I missed having the little boy by my side through the day, but I filled the time running errands and meeting with my manager. (It is amazing what you can get done without a baby in tow!)

All ready for his first day at nursery!
Ivor did great on his first day- he didn't cry, ate all the food on offer, played and even took his naps. Apparently he only fussed during diaper changes and when he was frightened by the shaving foam they gave him during activity time. On the train home, he flirted with the couple sitting next to us, giggling, waving, offering to share his crackers and flashing his handsome smiles- the man remarked that he doesn't usually like kids but Ivor had won him over. Once I got him home, he crashed, totally exhausted from his big day.

The only one who truly suffered from the nursery experience seems to be Teddy. We put Ivor's teddy bear in his nursery bag and Teddy ended up glued to Ivor's side all day- he came home coated in shaving foam, beans, banana and Ivor's slobber (Ivor comforts himself by chewing/sucking on Teddy's face and poking his eyes...). It is a good thing we bought a couple extra Teddy's to have on hand, because I think he is going to spend a fair amount of the time in the wash!
